43 Things You Can Do Right Now To Cure The Blahs

We all get a little down in the dumps from time to time, some more than others.

But we don't have to let our moods control our lives! There are lots of things we can do to distract ourselves from negativity:

  1. Listen to music that inspires you. 
  2. Look at photos that remind you of fun times you've had. 
  3. Meet a new friend. 
  4. Flirt with a cute stranger. 
  5. Take a walk, or hike, or jog... 
  6. Eat a piece of chocolate. 
  7. Sleep in for a day (but don't make it a habit). 
  8. Get a facial (or DIY at home). 
  9. Overdress. Who cares if you're just going grocery shopping? You deserve to feel beautiful! 
  10. Make your own jewelry. (Bonus points if you make something for a friend!) 
  11. Write a love letter to yourself. 
  12. Dance! (anywhere) 
  13. Go shopping. 
  14. Practice a new makeup technique. 
  15. Paint your nails wild, crazy colors. 
  16. Alter old clothing to create something "new" and wearable. 
  17. Get a tattoo or piercing. 
  18. Take a vacation (or just a day off) and go somewhere new. 
  19. Get a makeover. Even if you don't like it, it's still fun. 
  20. Call a friend you haven't spoken with in a while. 
  21. Draw. Skill doesn't matter. Just have fun. 
  22. Sing at the top of your lungs. 
  23. Take a yoga class. 
  24. Cuddle with a furry friend. 
  25. Revisit a favorite book from your childhood. 
  26. Play with Legos! 
  27. Volunteer. Helping others can help you feel better. 
  28. Find a hobby. 
  29. Eat healthier. Healthy body, healthy mind. 
  30. Try something new - food, music, hairstyle, etc. (not hard drugs!) 
  31. Download a swearing app to your phone. Childish, but still funny. 
  32. Start a gratitude journal and write down all the positive things in your life! 
  33. Learn how to cook. 
  34. Visit a museum, art gallery, etc. and get inspired! 
  35. Have a picnic. 
  36. Take an Epsom salt bath. 
  37. Write down your goals and hang them on your refrigerator. 
  38. Write down all your worries, then burn the paper! 
  39. Cover something in glitter, jewels, etc. 
  40. Clean out your closet and rediscover some great items you forgot about. 
  41. Surprise someone you care about. 
  42. Compliment others. (And yourself!) 
  43. Open yourself to change and personal growth. It'll be okay, don't be afraid!

  1. Number 31 is amazing; I didn't know such an app existed!

    Lifting weights used to help me a lot; it was the one thing that I would always do regardless of how I felt. Gets the endorphins going, and by the end of the session, I'd tend to be a little more even keeled and not thinking about whatever it was that had me down so much.

    One other thing to do is to pick a new language and just learn like 10 words (or some other number). No, it's not going to have you learn a whole new language, but it is cool to know a few words in different language. If I happen to run into someone from Croatia, I can make him/her smile by greeting him/her in his/her language. Zdravo, kako si?
