Nails: Maybelline Color Show 25 Mystic Green

I love holographic nail polish! Especially Maybelline Color Show 25 Mystic Green

The Color Show line is definitely my favorite of all nail polishes- this stuff will last almost an entire week without chipping (on its own, without a base and topcoat)! I'm rough on my nails (I play guitar and electric violin)- this stuff is AWESOME. And they have so many great colors to choose from!

Makeup: Black Mystery Smoky Eyes

Lately I've been wearing a basic soft black smoky eye (no eyeliner), and playing around with different sparkly loose pigments. My favorite right now is Maybelline Color Tattoo Pure Pigments in 30 Black Mystery. The blue sparkles are so cool!

Today I skimped on my makeup routine (no primers or highlighters!), but I think it's good to take a break every now and then, and not obsess over the little things.

What I'm wearing:
Sephora eyeshadow N*13 Peach Beige

Brushes:

I applied the black shadow all over my eyelids, as well as underneath, with a damp makeup brush, to help it last longer and avoid the black powder falling onto my cheeks (which, the black on super-pale skin can make a terrible mess). I like to use a somewhat thick (but flat) brush for a more dramatic effect. Then I highlight my browbones, and underneath my eyes, with a nude shimmer shadow. I usually skip eyeliner these days because with dark eye makeup, a harsh line is a bit too much with light blonde hair, I think.

FYI:
Regardless of bad skin days or unflattering lighting, I will not retouch my photos here. (This, of course, does not apply when I work with other photographers, as those photos are products of their talents.) As a personal style/beauty blogger, I am exposing myself to you- I think you should see me as I really am. This isn't about vanity, it's about documenting my life.

Silver Nails Like Disco Balls

The other day I picked up the Maybelline Mirror Image base and topcoat duo for $1.
(It's been discontinued for a while, so good luck finding it!)

I made the mistake of painting on an additional clear topcoat, and it dulled the polish dramatically! Like, the difference between the shiny and dull sides of aluminum foil.
(I'll be doing my toes with this stuff soon, minus the additional topcoat, so you can see what it really looks like.)

Don't get me wrong though- the dull-side-of-the-aluminum-foil silver is great, too.

BTW as usual, Gary was my victim.

Blue Striped Nails Tutorial: Maybelline Color Show 360 Sapphire Siren and 370 Shocking Seas

blue stripe nail art tutorial - maybelline color show 360 sapphire siren 370 shocking seas - music finger tattoos

What I used:
Maybelline Color Show 360 Sapphire Siren (dark blue)
Maybelline 370 Shocking Seas (light blue)

How I did it:
1) Paint the entire nail with the dark color (Sapphire Siren). You may need 2-3 coats. Let dry.
2) Once dry, paint a stripe down the center of each nail with the lighter color (Shocking Seas). Again, you may need a couple coats. Let dry.

I love accenting a deep blue with a lighter blue, and these shades are bold but not overpowering.

Holographic Pedicure: Maybelline Color Show in 25 Mystic Green and Nails Inc. Special Effects in 162 Cheyne Walk

Holographic Nail Polish - Maybelline Color Show in 25 Mystic Green and Nails Inc. Special Effects in 162 Cheyne Walk
I love holographic nail polishes!

In fact, I'm addicted to the gorgeous shimmery, wild colors. I just can't get enough!

And last night, after months of neglect, I finally gave myself a pedicure! It was a long overdue, necessary feel-good act I need to do more often.

Who says purple and green don't mix??

What I'm wearing:

I'm very fond of the simple stripe down the middle. It's quick and super easy to do, and adds a little extra flair that gets a lot of attention.

Striped Nails: Teal and Sapphire

I painted some simple stripes on Gary's nails with:

It was super easy to do- paint on two coats of the teal and let dry, then paint a stripe down the center with the sapphire blue.

** Note: If you want to make sure the Sinful Colors polish stays put longer than a day, use both a base and top coat. I love a lot of the colors the brand offers, but they won't stay on their own.

New Year 2014 Nails: Maybelline Color Show 765 Amethyst Couture (Limited Edition)

I picked up the limited edition Maybelline Color Show nail polish in 765 Amethyst Couture a short while back.

It's a beautiful sparkly deep purple polish with tiny gold flecks of glitter and larger, lighter purple glitter pieces. It goes on thick, and one coat is enough.

I'm quite intrigued by the entire Brocades collection. I love all of the color combinations, and the glitz and glamor of it. Very rarely does an entire collection strike my fancy, and I'm excited to pick up more colors at the local Rite Aid before they run out.

Any of the colors would be excellent to wear to a New Year party- both wild and beautiful at the same time.

The only bad thing I have to say is perhaps it is a little too thick. It can go on a bit rough and clumpy, so a little goes a long way.

Have you tried the Maybelline Color Show brocades collection yet? What do you think about it?

Here is my inspiration this year:

Nails: Maybelline Color Show Nail Polish in 875 Mod Moss

I bought the limited edition Maybelline Color Show polish in 875 Mod Moss on clearance a short while back, but haven't gotten the chance to try it until now. (FYI this product has been discontinued. Check clearance bins while you still can, and good luck!)

And WOW!, I love the deep olive leather-like finish. It is a truly beautiful, multifaceted nail polish.

There are tons of tiny gold flecks and some larger clear pieces in it as well. It has an interesting texture that is not at all annoying, however I find myself feeling my nails every now and then.

Yet another win for Maybelline Color Show! This is the perfect stuff to wear for the holidays this year.. I so badly wish it wasn't discontinued!

Have you tried this stuff yet? What do you think?

Nails And New Tattoos!

Check out my new tattoos! I got them done yesterday, as well as another rose and some vines on my neck.

These tiny tattoos are special to me because I'm married to my music. My art is my life.

I don't think these hurt much at all. Possibly the least painful tattoos I've gotten so far.

Before my appointment, I brushed on my new Nails Inc Special Effects glitter nail polish in 431 sloane square over top my previous Maybelline Color Show in 370 Shocking Seas to create this beautiful sparkling glacial blue you see here.

Do you have you fingers tattooed?

Nails: Maybelline Color Show Polish in Shocking Seas

Right now I'm rocking Maybelline Color Show nail polish in 370 Shocking Seas. Not only is it a fun color for these cold winter months (as well as summer I'd imagine!), it reminds me of bright blue Caribbean waters... and paradise- fruity drinks, bikinis, sun, and sand!

Escape to an imaginary tropical wonderland with me and try it out for yourself!

This polish is no different from the rest of the Color Show line, as it is bold in color and super long lasting. I love this stuff! It's my favorite brand of nail polish, and lasts through excessive use of cleaning products on a daily basis. And it's very affordable.

Do you use it? What do you think? And do you like the Shocking Seas color?

Fall 2013 Nail Color Inspiration - Leaves + New Monday Madness Linky

Here are my 5 favorite nail polishes for fall right now, inspired by the changing colors of the leaves.

From left to right....
Maybelline Color Show in 420 Wine & Dined
Maybelline Color Show in 25 Mystic Green
Maybelline Color Show in 65 Dotty
Maybelline Color Show in 910 Orange Extreme (discontinued)
Sinful Colors in 1134 Black Magic

I really love the Color Show nail polishes because they're bold, last a long time, and seem to always have the best colors of all the drugstore brands. I prefer colors that make a statement, and this is the first nail polish display I will stop at upon entering Walgreens.

**Note for nail newbies:
Glitter, polka dot, tinsel, etc. nail polishes should be thought of as a glittery topcoat that is applied over another color. Also, have fun getting it off- total pain in the ass! Regardless, they are still fun and crazy and eye catching. I hate how they require more time and work, but they really make my look more exciting!

My two favorites of this bunch would have to be Mystic Green and Wine & Dined. They are both classy, versatile, and shimmery, but not obnoxious. They are great for both day and night, and can work with almost any outfit change.

What's inspiring you this season? How do you come up with style ideas?

Review: Maybelline Color Show Nail Polish in Sapphire Siren

I absolutely love this color! Sapphire Siren is a bold deep blue that really stands out from the vast majority of blues I've tried over the years. This seems to be a trend with the Maybelline Color Show nail polish line- very bold colors.

When I first applied it, I smelled something that reminded me of a blue nail polish I wore about 10 years ago that stained my nails. This did the same thing. When I took it off with nail polish remover, my nails were stained with a blue tint. This is the only thing I don't like about it, and I haven't had this problem with the other colors I've tried so far.

This, however, is not going to keep me from using it, but I do need to consider it if I plan to follow up with a lighter nail polish.

It stays put pretty well, even with frequent use of cleaning products. Not the best I've ever tried, but I won't complain for the price! I like Maybelline Color Show and will continue to try out different colors.

Review: Maybelline Hydra Time lipstick in 03 Delicate

I happened to stumble across this today at the local Dollar Tree. Of course, me being the makeup junkie I am, I had to try it out. It was only $1, after all.

As the name of the shade describes, 03 Delicate, it is a nice, light, delicate pink. It goes on smooth and moisturizes instantly, which I love. However, it doesn't have much staying power- just that of a typical lip gloss. But for the price, I can't complain much.

Would I buy it again? Maybe, if I happen to find it for the same price later down the road. But I won't miss it too much, and wouldn't dare try it in a darker shade for fear it would be too messy.
